One of our latest innovations is the academic confidence score, launched in February 2025. This tool provides insight into how students perceive their academic abilities and strategies for success. It also helps evaluate the impact of our <a href=\"https:\/\/timelycare.com\/student-success-coaching\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">Success Coaching<\/a> program and fosters data-informed conversations about student outcomes.<\/p><h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"what-is-the-academic-confidence-score\"><\/span>What is the academic confidence score?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><p>The academic confidence score was developed out of the <a href=\"https:\/\/sparqtools.org\/mobility-measure\/sense-of-social-fit-scale\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">Sense of Social Fit Scale<\/a>, a psychological tool developed by Stanford\u2019s SPARQtools. This scale evaluates how supported and connected students feel within their academic environments.<\/p><p>In the full Sense of Social Fit Scale, students respond to prompts such as:<\/p><ul><li>\u201cI feel like I belong at this school.\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cPeople like me are welcome here.\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cI fit in with the students on this campus.\u201d<\/li><li>\u201cI know how to do well at [insert school name].\u201d<\/li><\/ul><p>Responses are rated on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.qualtrics.com\/experience-management\/research\/likert-scale\/\" data-wpel-link=\"external\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"external noopener\">Likert scale<\/a> from strongly disagree to strongly agree. These results help measure a student\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/timelycare.com\/blog\/sense-of-belonging-student-success\/\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\" target=\"_self\">sense of belonging<\/a>, which research shows is critical for persistence, engagement, and well-being.<\/p><p>TimelyCare is interested in the impact that success coaching may have on the academic components of a student\u2019s sense of belonging, which we conceptualize as \u201cacademic confidence.\u201d Therefore, we have implemented these questions from the scale at the start and end of each success coaching session:<\/p><ul><li><strong>Pre-session:<\/strong> \u201cI know how to do well at [insert school name].\u201d<\/li><li><strong>Post-session:<\/strong> \u201cNow that you have completed your session and have had an opportunity to visit with a Success Coach, how would you rate the following statement&#8230;I know how to do well at [insert school name].\u201d<\/li><\/ul><p>This structured approach allows us to measure shifts in self-perception and track the impact of our coaching.<\/p><h4><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"early-results-confidence-is-rising\"><\/span>Early results: Confidence is rising<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h4><p>After just four months of data collection, the results are clear. Students\u2019 academic confidence improved over the course of a success coaching visit, with average scores increasing from 4.2 to 4.4. Moreover, this change was statistically significant, meaning it is not likely to be attributable to random chance (p&lt;.05).
